FREE RECYCLING EDUCATION EVENT - This Saturday, Sept. 26, 1-4 pm:

A free, family friendly valley-wide recycling education event on Saturday, Sept. 26, 1-4 p.m. at the Vets Hall in Solvang is offering a special workshop from 3-4 p.m. for school administrators, teachers and parents to learn about this project from Ron and Bianca Pisano, Explore Ecology educator. We hope many of you will make time to attend. Other talks will be offered on what and how to recycle, how to be a smarter shopper, how to identify and handle hazardous wastes, what’s new in recycling, and even how to make money by recycling. In addition, you can get your own recycling questions answered and your children can learn while playing games and winning prizes or using recycled materials for art projects at the Explore Ecology tables. Many of the 23 cosponsoring community organizations, County and Cities of Buellton and Solvang, Marborg, Waste Management will have staffed displays or information on the Community Literature Table.

In addition to the Recycling: County Resource Recovery and Waste Management just notified us that Senior Deputy Charlie Uhrig from the Sheriff's Department will be at the Vets Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to collect expired or unwanted household medications from the public. Both prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted, including those for pets. Interested participants should bring the medications either in original containers (with personal information blacked out) or in sealed plastic baggies. This is part of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
