My friend, Dave Mochel, is a former high school teacher at Cate School who is now internationally recognized for his mindfulness work with schools and individuals. The article below is one that was published in the Huffington Post, and I believe worth sharing with the Family School Community.

Making Our Schools Well-being Centered

I will admit my bias right off the bat – I believe that the ultimate bottom-line of education is the well-being of individuals and communities. I cannot get excited by the idea that the deepest purpose of educational institutions is transmitting information and facilitating matriculation. Offering students a curriculum that will serve them for a lifetime is not the same as getting students through a curriculum that is created independent of their needs. When we lose sight of this, we can end up working at cross-purposes with the goal of increasing well-being in the world. Read More...
