WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SYVFS
I love that SYVFS provides intentional learning opportunities and collaborative experiences through leveraging our natural environment. I love that we emphasize kindness and social-emotional skills.
HOW I GOT TO SYVFS
I saw a Green Door position posted during 2020. I began as an aide, then progressed to teaching Advanced Green Door, art, guided reading in Blue Door, and am now a Red Door teacher.
WHY I DO WHAT I DO
I loved reading fantasy as a kid and watching children grow in their learning is real magic to me.
FAVORITE TEACHING MOMENT
I loved when a collaborative reading lesson came together the first week of Red Door. The students worked together to collect information from scientific articles, using highlighting and underlining to gather information and act as an “expert” about a local sea animal before combining information with other animal experts.
WHEN NOT AT SCHOOL
I am at the beach, hiking, collecting cool rocks and glass, reading, and learning new things.
PASSIONS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
Making art and writing stories. Appreciating nature.
FUN FACT
I can write with both hands.
FAVORITE PLACE ON CAMPUS
The Big Field because we are closer to nature and can recognize the changing of the seasons. A nice stroll spurs great conversations.
FAVORITE SYVFS TRADITION
Tarantula spotting because it is our mascot!
WE LOVE READING! HERE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS FOR KIDS:
I Am Enough by Grace Byers
