MY PATH TO TEACHING
My degree is in Human Development with an emphasis in childhood development, and I graduated from Long Beach State. While in college I was undecided about my career path, but after visiting and observing preschools, I knew I wanted to become a preschool teacher.
WHAT SHAPED ME
During my final year of college, I visited a variety of schools and was exposed to many different philosophies. This experience clarified my beliefs about what is developmentally appropriate. I feel completely aligned with the Family School, where my teaching style is guided by the belief that play is a child’s work and should be valued.
WHY SYV FAMILY SCHOOL
I love the extremely joyful environment, the children, families, and staff, and the school’s true appreciation of nature. I value its developmentally appropriate, mixed-age preschool. I am a big believer in the beauty of a mixed-age class, the advantages are profound.
IN MY CLASSROOM
I hope our students are excited to come to school. I want them to feel safe, valued, and loved. My goal is to inspire students to question, explore, and develop a passion for learning.
FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK
No, David! by David Shannon. This book is so much fun to read! Every page sparks conversation and laughter. The message is beautiful: children are loved unconditionally.
OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
I enjoy hiking, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with my grandbabies.
